PHOTOS: Agassiz alumni shine during weekend basektball tournament

More than 60 particpants competed

A big basketball reunion drew more than 60 Agassiz alumni to town this past weekend.

The AESS Alumni Basketball Tournament saw nine teams compete (six teams of Chieftains and three teams of Eagles). Organizer Kyle Dickey told The Observer that the 1995-2000 Eagles won the weekend for the women, and the 2002-2006 Chieftains won on the men’s side.

UBC Sports hall-of-famer Carrie Watts was at AESS this weekend to run a kids’ basketball camp, in which 20 children of alumni attended. Watts is an AESS alumna who currently works as the head coach of the University of Victoria Vikes women’s basketball team. Under her leadership, the Vikes won their first title in 30 years. During her career as a player, she has been named a Canada West all-star, Canada Defensive Player of the year.

The next alumni tournament is set for 2026.
