Dietmar passed away peacefully at home in Agassiz on January 30. He is survived by his wife, Pat; daughter, Lisa (Vijay); grandson, Ronin; brothers, Tom (Brenda) and Michael (Sarika); Pat's siblings and their spouses; and many nieces and nephews.
The Frey family immigrated to Canada in 1953 and settled in Agassiz in 1963. Following high school, Dietmar studied at UBC, first earning a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics) and then completing Computer Science and other coursework.
During his 33-year career at the Agricultural Research Centre, as the computer and information systems specialist, Dietmar was responsible for implementing many innovations to keep pace with evolving technology. Working in a scientific setting and helping to advance research for public benefit brought him great satisfaction.
Dietmar faced numerous challenges in his lifetime, but stoically adapted and persevered, all the while keeping his equanimity and his sense of humour. He was a respected and much-loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 20, at 1:30 PM at Agassiz United Church. Should friends desire, memorial donations to the B.C. Cancer Foundation would be appreciated.
