Fraser-Cascade School District welcomes new Secretary Treasurer

With decades of experience under his belt, Ken Mackie is SD 78’s new Secretary Treasurer

The Fraser-Cascade School District (SD 78) is excited to announce that Ken Mackie is the incoming Secretary Treasurer, effective August 23, 2021.

A highly experienced Secretary Treasurer, Mackie brings with him a strong reputation of fiscal responsibility and sound decision making, while also developing strong and caring relationships with stakeholders and community members alike.

And although he’s new to this position, Mackie has a deep history when it comes to educating the Easter Fraser Valley’s youth: from 1995 – ‘96, he was the Secretary Treasurer of School District 76 (Agassiz-Harrison); after that, he served as the Assistant Secretary Treasurer in the Chilliwack school district from 1996-2001, and for the past 16 years, Mackie has been the Secretary Treasurer for District 87 (Stikine).

A proud husband, father, and grandfather of 10 grandchildren, Mackie understands the importance of family and community, which he and his wife—a former pre-school teacher—have passed along to their children, who have chosen community-minded careers: two of their sons are Surrey RCMP members, and a third is a construction supervisor in Abbotsford.

“(Mackie) brings a wealth of experience to the role of Secretary Treasurer,” said Ron Johnstone, District Board Chair. “He has a proven track record of working well with partner groups, and he has developed strong relationships and agreements with Indigenous communities.”

“When so many other school districts are experiencing secretary treasurer vacancies, SD 78 is truly fortunate to have such a quality employee step into the role,” added Balan Moorthy, Superintendent of Schools.
