VIDEO: Bald Eagle Festival welcomes tourists, salmon, eagles to Harrison Mills

The annual festival took place on Saturday, Nov. 16 and Sunday, Nov. 17

Hundreds of eagles and human visitors spent time in Harrison Mills Saturday (Nov. 16) to take in the 24th annual Bald Eagle Festival.

Eagles have been descending on the Harrison River for weeks, to dine on a buffet of spawning salmon in the largest gathering of bald eagles anywhere in the world.

The Fraser Valley Bald Eagle Festival provided locals and tourists with a chance to view the eagles, from a number of land locations in Harrison Mills and Dewdney and from the water with the Fraser River Safari.

Surrey biologist David Hancock gave two talks on the Saturday, and will give two more on Sunday: one at 10 a.m. on the Fraser River Safari, and another at 1 p.m. at Tapedera Estates (14600 Morris Valley Rd).

Nature walking tours will also be taking place, starting at the Kilby Historic Site at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. Sunday, while Kanaka Education and Environmental Partnership Society interpreter Ross Davies will be speaking about bears at Tapedera Estates at 1 p.m.

Those wanting a self-guided experience can stop in at Tapedera Estates, the Sandpiper Golf Course (14282 Morris Valley Rd) and the Inch Creek Hatchery (38620 Bell Rd) during the remainder of the festival on Sunday (Nov. 17).
