Philomusica Chorus presents lively concert A Calypso Christmas

Caribbean-themed Christmas concert set for Dec. 2 in Chilliwack

It’ll be A Calypso Christmas this year for the Philomusica Chorus’ annual holiday concert on Dec. 2.

The choir is part of the Fraser Valley Philharmonic Society, and the program will feature a wide variety of lively Caribbean favourites for choir and percussion, as well as some more traditional carol settings employing choir and woodwind quintet.

Sarah Dyck on flute, Margaret Smiley on oboe, Stacy Brereton on clarinet, Paula Quick on French horn and Helen Kahlke on baritone saxophone will add some very special colour to the mix.

Much of Calypso repertoire incorporates percussion, and for this requirement, the chorus will welcome Ann Richards and Jaseph Lamache. There will also be a surprise Christmas offering that will take the familiar Jingle Bells to another galaxy.

A special addition to the program will be the second ever performance of Irish composer, Ephrem Feeley’s beautiful Mistletoe for women’s voices, glockenspiel and piano. The recording will be a premiere.

A Calypso Christmas with the Philomusica Chorus is Sunday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. at Carman United Church.

Tickets for the concert are available at Long & McQuade (cash only), and King’s Music. For further information on the program, call 604-316-2729.
