Editor,

I wish to thank The Honourable Rob Fleming, MLA and Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, for choosing ‘Option 3’ in respect to ‘fish passage and habitat improvements’ for the new bridge to be built this year over Trout Creek on the northern end of Rockwell Drive.

I am truly thrilled, as I believe others in our community are, that after many years of being blocked, spawning salmon will once again be able to reach spawning beds up-stream of Rockwell Drive due to the design chosen by the minister. These salmon spawning in Sasquatch Provincial Park will contribute to the food source of the orcas in our ocean and some may possibly end up on our dinner plates.

I also wish to thank the minister for preparing Rockwell Drive to withstand future onslaughts of extreme water flows as a result of any atmospheric events. The improvements to the infrastructure will contribute in making the nine-minute drive to Harrison a safe and reliable route south.

Thank you.
