Shooglenifty returns to Harrison for Festival of the Arts

Celtic fusion music confirmed to perform this summer

The Harrison Festival Society has offered its first glimpse at the summer lineup for the Festival of the Arts.

In a social media post on Thursday, March 14, the arts organization announced the return of Scotland-based Celtic fusion band Shooglenifty.

They are Eildh Shaw (fiddle), Ewan MacPherson (mandolin/tenor banjo/jaw harp), Malcolm Crosbie (guitars), Garry Finlayson (banjo), James Mackintosh (drums/percussion), Quee MacArthur (bass) and Kaela Rowan (vocals). Formed in 1990 in the Scottish highlands, the band fuses traditional Celtic music with the beats of outside influences to create something new entirely.

Shooglenifty performed at the Harrison Festival of the Arts back in 2007, much to the acclaim of festival-goers far and wide. They have performed all over the world, including before dignitaries such as King Charles III and late South African president Nelson Mandela. They have 11 albums to their name with their latest, “Acid Croft Vol 9,” coming out in 2020.

The Harrison Festival of the Arts is undoubtedly one of the biggest draws to Harrison Hot Springs every summer. The Festival has been a long-standing tradition for 40 years, including music acts from around the world, a premiere artisan market on the waterfront, and a Children’s Day.

The Harrison Festival Society is a non-profit grassroots organization dedicating to bringing the performing arts to Agassiz-Harrison. While their biggest event is the Festival of the Arts, the Festival Society hosts performances throughout the year. This includes the ongoing Season of Performing Arts, which consists of eight to 10 performances between September and May.

Tickets for the Harrison Festival of the Arts go on sale in mid-April. Stay connected to The Observer for more details.
