Three inmates were assaulted in a five-day period at Kent Institution near Agassiz.
Correctional Service Canada (CSC) reported the incidents on March 24, March 26 and March 29 in separate releases within the same week. Multiple assailants were identified in all threee incidents, and the victims were transported to outside hospital to undergo treatment. “Appropriate action” has been taken against the assailants involved, the CSC said. No other inmates or staff members were injured during the incidents.

“The safety and security of institutions, their staff, and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system,” the CSC stated. “In order to improve practices aimed at preventing this type of incident, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances of the incident and take the appropriate measures.”
