Heavy rain is expected to continue in the Fraser Valley today (Dec. 5), according to a weather alert from Environment Canada.
After heavy rainfall on Monday (Dec. 4), between 10 and 20 mm of further rain is expected this morning.
“A potent and impactful storm, an atmospheric river, is over the South Coast and is bringing heavy rain,” the weather warning reads.
Environment Canada says the storm will slowly ease throughout the day, turning to showers late this morning.
“Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible,” the weather alert reads.
A flood watch is currently in effect for the Fraser Valley region, including Abbotsford, Mission, Chilliwack, Agassiz and Hope.
The BC River Forecasting Centre uses the “flood watch” warning level when river levels are rising and will approach or may exceed bankfull. Flooding of areas near impacted rivers could also occur.
Environment Canada says to watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.
