Kent Institution inmate assaulted

Another Kent Institution inmate as been assaulted at the maximum-security prison.

Correctional Service Canada reported that on Feb. 16, an inmate was attacked by multiple assailants and transported to outside hospital for treatment. The injured inmate has since been returned to the institution.

The Agassiz RCMP and CSC are investigating the incident. The assailants were identified and appropriate actions have been taken.

There were no staff members or other inmates hurt in the incident.

“The safety and security of institutions, their staff, and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system,” CSC stated. “In order to improve practices aimed at preventing this type of incident, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances of the incident and take the appropriate measures.”
