The District of Kent is handing down its first water advisory in the past three years.

District officials announced that residents on the Mount Woodside Water System are advised to take measures to conserve water.

Last month, 75 per cent of residents on that water system exceeded their monthly capacity.

“Limiting lawn watering and car washing, checking for leaks around your home, and only running your dishwasher or washing machine with full loads is strongly encouraged,” the district stated.

The neighbouring village of Harrison Hot Springs is under water restrictions, asking residents to limit non-essential use, including watering lawns and washing vehicles.

Local officials offered the following tips to help conserve water:

Use a spring-loaded nozzle for watering to better control water flow and usage.

Invest in water-conserving shower heads, and aerators on bathroom taps, and consider installing toilets that are water-conserving certified.

Turn off the water while shaving, brushing teeth and washing dishes

Only run your dishwasher and washing machine when you have full loads
