Multiple crews called to outhouse fire at Chilliwack recreational area

Bathroom facilities near Island 22 dike gate destroyed by fire

A report of two outhouses on fire at Island 22 resulted in a call for multiple fire crews, but in the end, it was quickly dealt with by one crew.

The blaze happened around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22.

One outhouse was completely destroyed by the time the first fire truck arrived, and the rest of the response was quickly told to stand down. The remaining outhouse that was ablaze was extinguished.

The outhouses were located at the gate to Island 22 on Cartmell Road, an area that is a mix of dense brush, forest, recreational facilities, some businesses and even some homes.

If a wildfire were to start in the area, it would be considered an interface fire.
