Another blustery Agassiz day, another door blown off its hinges.
The winter wind whipped through the community on Thursday, Feb. 23, sending everything from recycling bins to heavy glass doors flying all over Agassiz-Harrison.
The door on Agassiz restaurant Butter Chicken House was hanging on by a proverbial thread as residents endured high winds; the glass was miraculously intact. Eagle-eyed Larry Kimber spotted a grill cover tarp that had been “wind napped,” coming to rest several feet up a tree.

“Getting this down is going to be interesting,” Kimber wrote on a Facebook post.
“Maybe the wind can blow it out of the tree next time it gets windy?” replied Scott Gritt.
While wind speeds on Feb. 23 were alarming at times, it didn’t quite hit a record, according to data collected by Weather Canada. Wind speeds peaked at 27 km/h that Thursday, early in the morning between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. For this time of year, maximum wind speeds generally hit just under 20 km/h on average with a minimum speed of 2 km/h. The record for wind speed in February was clocked in at 56 km/h in 1996.
