UPDATE: Mountain Institution lockdown ends

Sweeping search uncovers unauthorized items and contraband

For the first time in recent months, Mountain Institution was locked down fuor multiple days following an exceptional search of the medium-security institution.

Correctional Service of Canada stated that a number of unauthorized items and contraband were seized during the four-day search from July 22 to 26.

“The Correctional Service of Canada is strengthening measures to prevent the entry of contraband into its institutions in order to ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone,” The CSC stated. “CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to have contraband brought into correctional institutions.”

Normal operations and visiting protocols have resumed.
