Wildfire east of Harrison Lake grows to 1.5 hectares

Cause is unknown, fire listed as out of control

A wildfire that broke out on Friday (Aug. 19) is now listed as out of control.

According to B.C. Wildfire Service, the fire is off of Slolicum Creek Forest Service Road north of the Sasquatch Provincial Park boundary. The suspected cause is unknown at this time. As of Friday morning, the Harrison Hot Springs Fire Department initially estimated the fire was about 300 metres by 300 metres in size but it has grown to 1.5 hectares as of Saturday morning.

Residents reported seeing firefighting helicopters on the scene early Friday to help fight the blaze.
