The Chilliwack Cultural Centre is closing its doors until further notice due to the most recent public health orders.
According to a news release sent out Tuesday morning by the not-for-profit Chilliwack Arts and Cultural Centre Society, “While the orders do not specifically close theatres and galleries, they do order the suspension of all musical, theatrical or dance entertainment or performance, live band performance, disc jockey performance, strip dancing, comedic act, art show, magic show, puppet show, fashion show, movie, film, meeting, lecture, educational presentation, competition, festival, presentation, demonstration, and exhibitions.”
The society runs the building on behalf of the City of Chilliwack. The Chilliwack Cultural Centre houses the HUB International Theatre, Rotary Hall Studio Theatre, and O’Connor Group Art Gallery.
All three spaces will still be available for recording and live-streaming of performances and exhibitions with no audience or spectators present.

Although the order does not speak to arts and crafts programs, the Society’s Board of Directors has also suspended the Arts and Crafts and Open Studio programs.
They have reached out to Fraser Health to see if those programs can safely continue.
“We will follow Fraser Health’s direction and advice fully, but we are eager to keep whatever programs are deemed safe by Fraser Health going forward,” the news released noted. “We will immediately re-open all programs allowed under the provincial or regional health authorities.”
The society anticipates shows scheduled for 2021 will proceed.
Meanwhile, anyone who had tickets for Boomerang Five featuring Sarah Wills and Guests, and the Bergmann Duo’s performance of Bach on the Bench, will have access to a full credit on account for their ticket purchases.
Refunds are available for those who do not wish to accept a credit for future shows or events.
