Harrison Hot Springs Village council dedicated a stone bench and memorial plaque to honour former mayor and patriarch of the community John Willison Green.

In May of 2016, a local legend passed away and the communities of Agassiz and Harrison Hot Springs lost John Willison Green. Green served on Harrison Hot Springs Village council as an elected official in the early 1960s and again in early 2000.

In recognition of his passing, council passed a resolution to recognize him for his contribution to the community of Harrison Hot Springs.

Due to Green’s history with Harrison and his tireless contributions as a journalist, leader volunteer, historian and renowned Sasquatch Researcher, council chose a stone bench and memorial plaque to be installed in honour of his memory.

The bench and plaque installation is now complete. It sits on the Village property at the entrance to the office.

“The community felt a great loss with Green’s passing last year when he died in Chilliwack on May 28 at the age of 89, after what his children described as a long and varied life,” wrote Ashley Wadhwani in The Jun. 9 edition of The Observer.

“He was a councillor on Harrison Hot Springs Village council, serving as mayor for two years. While on council he initiated the building of the beach and lagoon. Green also brought the International Sand Sculpture competition to Harrison Beach, of which the sculptures would attract beach-goers and tourists to the area even after the competition was finished.”
