The District of Kent Council is going digital.

During the most recent council meeting on April 15, the District of Kent approved the use of Microsoft Teams to webcast the next public hearing scheduled for April 27, 2020 at 7 p.m. This action comes as yet another effort by local authorities to carry out the orders of Public Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry to limit numbers related to mass gatherings and encourage social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic.

No further digital meetings have been scheduled as of press time, but that could change given the continuously evolving nature of anti-COVID-19 measures. Information about how to attend the meeting will be made available on the district’s website at https://www.kentbc.ca.

In other council business, district officials reported a projected trial date of May 1, 2020 for the level 2 electric vehicle charger station at the Agassiz-Harrison Museum parking lot, located at 7011 Pioneer Avenue. This project began back in August 2018 and experienced several delays before it was finally installed on March 6, 2020. However, the system still needs a charger network management system. There will ultimately be a small, to-be-determined fee associated with the use of the system.
