As restrictions lift and visitor traffic returns to Agassiz-Harrison, it’s important to take special care to be safe on the roads.

ICBC recently updated their Lower Mainland crash map, detailing some of the most crash-prone intersections throughout the province.

The intersection of Evergreen Drive and Lougheed Highway saw the most crashes with seven last year. The Highway 9/Mackay Crescent/Morrow Road and the Mountainview Road/Tuyttens Road areas both saw four crashes.

Ashton Road – a road currently under evaluation for traffic-calming measures by local officials – saw three crashes at the Ashton-Lougheed intersection. The Hot Springs Road/McCallum Road/Striker’s Corner area heading into Harrison Hot Springs rounded out the top five most crash-prone Agassiz intersections of 2020.

ICBC defines casualty crashes as involving injuries or death. Of these top five A intersections, only two saw casualty crashes, Evergreen-Lougheed saw four casualties.

In Harrison Hot Springs, ICBC recorded a total of five crashes, each at a separate intersection. Four of the five crash sites involve Hot Springs Road – intersecting with Balsam, Cedar, Esplanade and Lillooet avenues, respectively – and two involve Lillooet Avenue. The only crash site not involving Hot Springs Road in some way was a single crash at Lillooet and Maple.

Four of the five crashes had one casualty each reported, the Cedar/Hot Springs Road crash being the only exception.

The ICBC maps exclude crashes involving parked vehicles or in parking lots and only include crashes in which there was sufficient location information.
