After a quiet first few weeks of 2022, Kent-Harrison Search and Rescue reported their first two calls last week.

KHSAR volunteers were first called out Jan. 11 to assist the Agassiz Fire Department to rescue a vehicle that rolled over the bank at the 4-kilometre mark along Harrison East Forest Service Road. The next day, KHSAR assisted B.C. Emergency Health Service to transport an injured elderly person from Tipella near the head of Harrison Lake to hospital.

The road and weather conditions made passage impossible by land, but that’s where the KHSAR’s boat, Spirit of Harrison, came in. Volunteers picked up the patient by boat and delivered them to an ambulance waiting in Harrison Hot Springs.

KHSAR has welcomed six new volunteers this year, all of whom are undergoing Ground Search and Rescue training.
