An inmate at Mountain Institution died at a Surrey hospital Tuesday, according to Correctional Service Canada.
On April 19 Kenneth Blair Schmutz passed at the age of 51.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
At the time of his death, Schmutz had been serving a sentence of 7 years, 6 months and 20 days for sexual interference and other offences since April 15, 2013.
His next of kin have been notified of his death.
