Work begins this summer to replace the Chehalis River Bridge on Morris Valley Road.

The provinical government recently announced the construction project, saying replacing the old single-lane bridge would significantly improve road access for residents in Hemlock Valley.

“The replacement of the old single-lane bridge over the Chehalis River will be a big improvement for the many people who rely on Morris Valley Road,” said Chilliwack-Kent MLA Kelli Paddon. “The new two-lane bridge will make travel safer and will serve area residents for many years to come.”

The current bridge was built in 1950, made of timber and located six kilometres north of Highway 7.

The new structure would be a two-lane bridge 96 metres long built on the downstream side of the current bridge. The new design includes a sidewalk for pedestrians and cyclists. The cost of the project is estimated at $7.3 million.

Construction is slated to begin in July and be completed by next fall. The old bridge will be demolished and removed upon completion.
