The heat is on in Chilliwack this week

Thursday’s high forecast for 35, but some say it could be higher

If you’ve put off buying a fan this summer, now might be the time.

Temperatures are expected to soar into the mid 30s in the Fraser Valley this week, bringing the first sustained heat wave of the season.

Environment Canada is forecasting heat as high as 35 C by Thursday, although other forecasters say the temperatures could climb even higher.

Monday’s high is forecast to be 29, launching a string of days above 30, Environment Canada says – 33 on Tuesday and 34 on Wednesday.

The Weather Network, however, says Thursday’s high could be 41 C and feel like 44.

The extreme heat is bringing the usual warnings: Leave your pets at home, and check on your neighbours if they’re older and live alone.

Relief is not expected until next Wednesday when temperatures will dip below 30.
