Virtual counselling session set to help Hope residents cope with disaster

Professional from Justice Institute tapped to lead conversation on critical stress management

There will be an online opportunity for Hope and area residents to come together as a community in this time of disaster.

The Hope Citizens Emergency and Disaster Planning Committee have invited an expert in critical stress management to lead a Community Health & Wellness Virtual Gathering via Zoom. Carolyn Sinclair, the president of Strategic Business Risks International, is an instructor at the Justice Institute of BC, instructing in the Emergency Management Division and the Centre for Counselling and Community Safety.

Sinclair has more than 25 years of professional and operational experience in the areas of emergency management, critical incident stress management, disaster response, and recovery.

The session is meant to help residents acknowledge the recent “harm, pain and loss” the community has experienced due to the severe flooding, landslides and isolation.

“We … are inviting the community members to come together to offer practical tools and resources to help support personal and family wellness and recovery,” the invitation reads. “This guided dialogue will provide a safe space to bring neighbours together as well receive practical tools and resources to cope during difficult and challenging times.”

All community members are welcome to join in, and there is no fee. The session is running Dec. 2 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
