In Loving Memory (1930-2023) ~
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and family matriarch. Mom passed away on March 20, 2023, at Cascade Hospice.
She was predeceased one year ago by her husband Lorne of 68 years.
She is lovingly survived by her children; Karen and Lorna (Rob); her granddaughters, Corrin, Shannon (Jay), Deserai (Garrett), and Mya; great-grandson Carter; and step-great-granddaughter Lauren. Also survived by her loving brother Ron (Ruth), many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mom was born in Nipawin and raised in Snowden Saskatchewan, a small farming community. She was one of ten children. She left her family home at the young age of 16. Equipped with her pioneering spirit, complete with courage and determination, she came out west to Mission and worked along with her sister Mick at the Eddy Match Company.
Her next move was to Kamloops, and she worked at Tranquille TB Hospital as a nurse's aide. She wanted to further her education and so this led her to San Francisco, where she worked hard and put herself through school to become a dental assistant.
After working in her profession there for a while she moved to Chilliwack and worked at the army base as a dental assistant. It was on the bus to and from work that she met her husband Lorne.
Mom and Dad were both hard workers and spent many years working at their Vedder Laundromat business together. She was a past member of the Steller's Jay Lions Club and a lifetime member of the Cultus Lake Community Church.
Mom's family was always the most important thing in her life. She showered us all in love and affection. We cherish all the many special occasions that we spent together celebrating birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, and christenings at the family home on Miller Drive. Her greatest desire was for her family to stay together and always love and care for each other forever.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Cascade Hospice where Mom spent her last 7 weeks of life. Also, many thanks to Dr. Mark MacKenzie for providing such great care to Mom over the years and for the ongoing friendly banter you shared with her over her Vancouver Canucks and your Montreal Canadiens.
God bless you Mom/Nana and thanks for your unconditional love and wonderful memories. Rest well in Dad's arms.
