I attended (on Zoom) the council meeting on April 3, 2023 and found it to be a sad, sad, situation.

In my opinion, the veneer was a little more polished, but the lack of cooperation from the council was palpable. When I listened to the obstacles Mayor Wood had to face since becoming mayor, it was truly heart-wrenching.

I can’t imagine starting a new position and being ousted to a mouldy trailer outside of the office space where the previous mayor was located. What a disgrace, whoever masterminded that event!

With respect to the trip to Toronto that all councillors have chosen to go to, does our village need to be represented by five people to an event for mayors? Retaining legal representation because some people’s feelings are being hurt on Facebook –all this on the village budget? It boggles my mind. Surely this is not right, except in the Twilight Zone.

I try my best to believe “hope springs eternal.” But my hope in this council ever reconciling to the change of leadership is fading fast. It’s a tight group, which is lovely, except when it’s so exclusive it cannot accept change. Maybe when family and long-time friends work on council together, it creates different dynamics that may have ramifications when “newcomers” come on board.

I commend Mayor Wood for his calm, inclusive demeanor through this difficult time. I do not know you and have no idea how you will be as mayor in the long-term, but I wish you well. From where I sit, you are the light through a very dark tunnel.
