The UFV Cascades baseball team is bringing Buck Martinez to Abbotsford.
The team announced Martinez as the replacement for Gregg Zaun at their fundraising event, which occurs at the Quality Hotel and Conference Centre in Abbotsford on Feb. 10.
Zaun was removed as the keynote speaker for the event on Nov. 30. He was terminated from his analyst role at Sportsnet earlier that day following allegations of inappropriate behaviour and comments at the workplace.
Martinez played 17 seasons in Major League Baseball, suiting up for the Kansas City Royals, Milwaukee Brewers and Toronto Blue Jays .
He also managed the Blue Jays from 2001 to May 2002, and is currently the television play-by-play announcer for the team.
An Evening with Buck Martinez will also feature dinner, a live and silent auction, and provide those in attendance an update on the team.
Rob Fai, the voice of the Vancouver Canadians, will be the master of ceremonies for the event.
An early bird special sees tickets priced at $130 or a table of eight for $1,000. Those prices jump to $150 for a single ticket and $1,200 for a table of eight after Jan. 10.
